321 murders of transgender folk across the world in the last 12 months.
That's nearly one death per day.
That's only the ones that have been reported.
That doesn't include the thousands of physical, psychological and sexual assaults that have taken place.
These were people. So many of them were young. So many of them were killed within their own homes or while under the care of the state in hospitals, jails and prisons. All over the world. They were shot, strangled, burned, beaten, decapitated, dismembered, stoned, tortured, hit, and cut.
How this world treats people for being who they are is unacceptable.
Whatever we are doing to make things better is not good enough.
We have to do more.
To my brothers, sisters, siblings...
I'm sorry the world misunderstood you. I'm sorry people didn't see you for the real, wonderful, diverse and bright people that you undoubtedly were. To go out into the world and be truly who you are is so incredibly brave, and you were punished for it by those who cannot see the power in diversity.
We will do better. We have to.
